President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shared new details about Turkey’s strategic moves in the field of artificial intelligence in his statement following the Cabinet Meeting held at the Presidential Complex.
Turkey will increase its investments in the field of artificial intelligence
Erdoğan announced that data center investments that will reach a total capacity of 1 gigawatt by 2030 are planned and that special data center zones will be established with a budget exceeding 10 billion dollars within this framework. The data center infrastructure, which is currently at the level of 250 megawatts in Turkey, is aimed to be quadrupled in the next five years.
It was reported that the data center zones will be equipped with a safe and continuous energy infrastructure. It was stated that these facilities were planned to meet the increasing artificial intelligence and big data needs of both the public and private sectors.
Erdoğan stated in his statement that important steps will be taken not only in terms of physical infrastructure but also in terms of human resources. He reported that specialization training in the field of artificial intelligence will be expanded and that local initiatives in this field will be supported through the Artificial Intelligence Fund.
The effective evaluation of public large data pools was also on the agenda. Erdoğan stated that the National Artificial Intelligence Board will lead projects that will transform this data for the benefit of society. It is planned to make public policies more effective with data-driven and algorithmic decision-making systems.
In the statement, it was seen that the risks were not ignored in addition to the potential brought by artificial intelligence. Erdoğan said that the necessary measures will be taken against the negativities that these technologies may cause in areas such as ethics, security and privacy.
